Do you believe local government can be world changing? Welcome to Richmond and Wandsworth
Eight years ago, Richmond and Wandsworth Councils came together to create something quite unique – a single workforce serving two boroughs and delivering services for over half a million residents; a whole slice of London.
Working across inner and outer London, with two political administrations and two sovereign identities, but an entirely integrated workforce, we are Richmond and Wandsworth Better Service Partnership; there's no one else like us, and there’s no other role like this.
Applications for this role have now closed.
Richmond and Wandsworth Better Service Partnership has an impressive track record of reducing costs and delivering high quality services. We’ve done some truly great and innovative things, and as our society faces a future of faster, more profound change, we are ready to seize the opportunities and do more for our communities, to help them thrive in a changing world.
This is where you come in.
You’ll be joining Richmond and Wandsworth at a time when our ambitions for our boroughs are really coming to life and you’ll drive forward both administrations’ ambitions to achieve best in class local government services.
In Richmond upon Thames, you will have a place-leadership role, working with local partners to build on our heritage as a home to world class innovation and achievement. You will provide leadership for the delivery of two major projects breathing life back into Richmond and Twickenham town centres. As the greenest borough in London, Richmond is one of the most ambitious in tackling climate change with a drive to continuously improve the sustainability of our services. And you’ll guide the borough through the housing crisis, bringing innovation to tackle the unique challenges Richmond faces in providing affordable housing and making it genuinely a place that anyone can call home.
The world’s attention is turning to Wandsworth, with Apple and the US Embassy setting up UK headquarters here, and the new administration has an ambition for the borough to match. You will be at the helm for Wandsworth’s year as London Borough of Culture, delivering a programme which will use the power of culture to transform lives, connect people and improve wellbeing.
In Wandsworth you’ll oversee our Decade of Renewal and you’ll deliver significant place-based regeneration schemes including the Alton Renewal Plan and the Clapham Junction masterplan. You’ll take forward the vision for the Access for All scheme, an ambitious borough-wide initiative aimed at breaking down barriers and ensuring better access to opportunities for all our residents.
You will also lead Richmond and Wandsworth Better Service Partnership’s ambitious change programme. Established in June 2023 as a vehicle to transform the fundamentals for us to be innovative, resilient and adaptable for the future, it is building on our financial stability with a focus on digital, workforce and place leadership. An early priority for the programme has been to establish the leadership and build the capacity to deliver and embed change, and with the support of a passionate Executive Leadership Team you will be central to its success and its legacy. With new challenges to face and new opportunities to harness, now is not the time to stand still.
This is a unique opportunity to join an organisation that is pushing the boundaries of local government.
This is not just another job.
Make history with us.
