Employee benefits

We provide a comprehensive benefits package designed to attract, develop and reward our employees. Our current benefits include:

Flexible and agile working

We care more about how you work and what you achieve, rather than where you work on any given day. The difference you can make to our local communities is what really matters most to us - service delivery must always come first. Our agile working strategy actively supports and encourages a dynamic work environment.

We also do everything we can to accommodate longer-term flexible working arrangements, including:

  • Compressed or part-time hours
  • Term-time only working
  • Job shares and other arrangements

Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process (and beyond) if these are options you’d like to explore.

Holidays

You will receive 40 days of annual leave including bank holidays. You can also:

  • Carry over up to 5 days of unused leave into the following leave entitlement year
  • Buy up to 28.8 hours of additional leave each year

Pension scheme

You will automatically be enrolled in the generous Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

Season ticket loan

We offer interest-free loans on public transport season tickets, allowing you to pay this back in monthly instalments.

Salary sacrifice schemes

The following salary sacrifice schemes are currently available through our benefits platform:

  • Car maintenance
  • Cycle to work
  • Vivup home and electronics products

Discounts

Our benefits platform offers an impressive range of savings, from gym memberships to your favourite retail stores.

You can also access discounts on fine dining, attractions, and financial services.

Health and wellbeing

Our benefits include:

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

Our EAP is a 24/7 free support tool for our employees and their families including mental health support and financial and legal advice.

Occupational Health

You can receive advice on optimising health and wellbeing through good work practices, and guidance about developing and keeping a healthy lifestyle.

The service also advises managers on how best to support staff during periods of poor health or absence.

Eye tests and corrective lenses

Free eye tests are available every two years.

If you need glasses solely for VDU use, you'll be able to claim back for an eye test every year and receive a £49 voucher towards corrective lenses.

Flu jabs

Free flu immunisation is available if you are not eligible to receive this through the NHS.

Supporting and developing staff

We're fully committed to providing the support you need to develop your skills and experience, enabling you to succeed both now and in your future career.

Leadership and Management Development

We offer a range of short courses and longer-term development programmes for managers at all levels.

Apprenticeships

We support many staff to develop their skills and career by undertaking an apprenticeship qualification. This includes staff of all ages, at any stage of their career and both new and existing staff.

Popular apprenticeships include Team Leader, Operations Manager and Data Analyst, but there are many more relevant qualifications available.

Mentoring

To help support all staff to reach their potential and prosper in their careers, the SSA offers a mentoring programme to all employees.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

We're committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and developing a culture that values differences, recognising that employees from a variety of different backgrounds bring important and positive contributions to the Councils and can improve the way we deliver services.

We want to make sure the SSA is a truly inclusive place to work and that we provide the best possible services to all our residents.
